"I came to Root to Bloom with the desire to build community in a safe and healing environment...Within RTB I felt empowered, encouraged, heard, seen, uplifted, understood, affirmed, loved, cared for, and I always felt welcome by such strong and courageous individuals - like another home where I could shed my layers and be vulnerable / vulnerageous. I recognized that I was not alone in some of the challenges that I face, I had a space for release, and I felt guided and nurtured in my blooming...spaces like RTB are necessary, especially in the age of COVID-19, and I will cherish the positive experience I had with all the bloomers <3"

Course Overview

Unit 1 - Rooted in Community

As we embark on the journey of SELF AWARENESS inwards and down, into our roots we look at who we are and where we come from. We understand our “roots” by examining our most common and shared home, Earth. We'll cover what home means to each of us and as a collective, what does it mean to be on this planet, protecting and defending it. Looking at the historical context of our ancestral stories, we begin to unpack the impacts of colonization, forced migration on our collective mental health. A critical framework will emerge as we draw on the connections between our historical migration through land and how that impacts how we show up for the communities we serve today

Unit 2 - Growth & Germination

As we enter the heart of the program we want to offer hard skills in communication that leverage our ACCESS to develop the soft skills of relationship building. In this unit expect to be challenged with shifting and disrupting the social norms of how we talk to ourselves and each other. This unit also breaks down the mechanics of being triggered, allowing us a pathway to metabolize or alchemize the big emotions and reactions that can create barriers to our transformation. Rather than fleeing from our resurfaced trauma, we allow for the safety and restorative tools and allow full acceptance of ourselves. Witness your own breaking through the soil in this unit.

Unit 3 - The Blooming

We’re here for the magic of it all, yes? The final leg of this journey will have you time traveling, tapping into our ability to collapse the concept of time and space. Our futures depend on our ability to dream, envision, and create from the source of energy that was cultivated from the journey up until now. As we remember the ways in which our ancestors sourced the many dimensions of information, channeling the prophecies and ideas to solve problems, we’re reminded that we can do the same today. Our culminating unit will also ensure INTEGRATION all the growth, learning, and experiences from the last couple of units were not to waste. Complete the cycle of transformation into your blooming to prepare you for the next version of you, beyond Root To Bloom!

This Story of
Collective Liberation

Your facilitators, Raynelle (left) and Kisai (right) came together in 2018 in hopes of creating a healing space for providers working in direct services to our local communities in most need of services. Recognizing that although traditional models of professional development were valuable in providing skills development, what was missing was the acknowledgement that the traumas within ourselves and our community members are very much alive as we walk through life on a daily basis.

As the increasing need for a holistic and blended approach to supporting our frontline providers developed pre-pandemic 'til now, Root To Bloom was borne out of that need to integrate the personal with the professional development, along with disrupting the harmful cycles of burnout and extractive workplace practices with transformative self care & liberatory leadership practices.

The growing Root To Bloom community is the space of "Acknowledging Trauma, Practicing Joy"

THIS COURSE WILL LAUNCH as a SELF STUDY COURSE beginning Oct 1st, 2023. You have access to all of the course materials once enrolled and may engage with the learning at your own pace.

What's different about self paced vs. the traditional hybrid programming?

You'll still get the same benefits of engaging with our profound lessons, trainings, resources, and community. In self study there is minimal live calls and in person sessions. You'll still be able to meet with your peers and engage with alumni on a monthly basis (3rd Tuesday) during our community calls. Details are provided in the course room.

How long do I have access to the course?

You will have access to this course for the entire duration of your enrollment.

What if I am unhappy with the course?

We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a full refund.

Is this course only for BIPOC providers or inclusive of White identified providers as well?

This space is open to all who provide direct service to community members and organizations in the Bay Area's most vulnerable communities, which often are BIPOC and other systemically marginalized groups. We aim to empower providers with a course that will enhance their skill sets and knowledge to effectively work with these communities. This course tends to appeal to our BIPOC providers and is established from the beginning as a safer space for those in most need to heal through and process the impacts of colonization and white supremacy on those communities being served.

Are there any ways I can still participate if I can't afford any of the pricing options?

We are committed to serving all providers to have access to this amazing opportunity. Since this course is considered a professional development service, we encourage you to first reach out to your employer to ask them to support you. We also encourage you to reach out to your community and/or family to support your growth and development. Full or partial scholarships are always made available by the fundraising efforts of Comm(UNITY) and their generous partners as well as local community-based, socially conscious businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area. Scholarship applications might be available. We will notify you via email when you sign up for our newsletter. See the form above.

What does “online” mean?

We utilize a few different technology tools to maintain communication with the cohort and facilitators along with sharing the training information. These tools include: direct email, comment sections in your course room, our Root To Bloom Google Group, and announcements on social media channels and email campaigns.

Where will our in-person gatherings or events happen?

When we gather in person we may gather in Oakland or San Francisco. We tend to choose locations easily accessible by public transportation and venues aligned with our community values. Follow us on Instagram @roottobloomsf

Can I still participate if I live or work outside of the Bay Area?

Since this is a self study course, all learning engagement will happen through the online course room so you can complete this course whenever and where ever you are!

As facilitators we will apply our knowledge, experience and lens from doing community work based in the San Francisco Bay Area with the knowledge that the content we present is part of the systemic design of all of our cities and communities. We created this training program understanding that our hopes and struggles are interconnected. So no matter where you live or work, this space is still made for us, by us.
